Sodium Bicarbonate Blasting Media
The SH BLAST Soda Blasting Media is a special salt that is based on pure synthetic sodium bicarbonate and is made for applications in blasting technology. The soda abrasive has a comparatively low hardness and is especially suitable for the cleaning of sensitive surfaces and parts. It does not penetrate into surfaces and has the advantage of being suitable for soft tools and molds.
Due to its light structure, Soda is a very soft abrasive. It forms a fine biological harmless particle cloud which is safely dissolved with water after the work has been completed. Soda blasting agents are single-use disposable abrasives that decay to dust after their first application. In contrast to other methods, the cleaning effect is not achieved by the sharp-edged angular structures of other abrasives and their penetration into surfaces, but by the discharge of the surface tension inherent in the blasting agent.
With its limited hardness soda is suitable for blast cleaning of sensitive components, but not for applications such as rust removal. Soda blasting is capable of cleaning injection molds or extrusion tools. In general, even thin metals can be cleaned well with soda-blasting agents without causing any distortion.
Soda is environmentally friendly, harmless to health and non-toxic and also approved for use in the food industry. It is water solvent and residues are easily rinsed out.
SH BLAST Soda Blasting Media are available in the standard sizes:
- 0.10 - 0.30mm
- 0.30 - 0.50mm.
When used correctly, soda blasting agents will mildly clean surfaces from coatings, residues or deposits without altering its texture or structure. Machines and mechanical parts as well as injection molds and tools are cleaned without any negative influence to the dimensions or the surface finish.
SH BLAST Soda Blasting Media abrasives are suitable for use in pressure blasting systems, injector blasting systems, special soda blasting systems and as abrasive additives for dry ice cleaning devices.

Attention:
When abrasive blasting always pay attention to wearing suitable protective clothing. Use suitable ventilation systems whilst working in enclosures. Only use appropriate abrasive medias for suitable applications and with the correct instructions. Incorrectly used abrasives can cause damage to the surfaces being blasted.
